My name is Chris McNabb.  I am a proud graduate of Rosemont School of the Holy Child, Devon Prep, and La Salle University.  I was born in a small town - Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  My experience in Catholic education has led to me serve for a year in Camden, NJ.  I came to FVM with a hunger for justice, service to the poor, a desire to learn about Francis, and a need to sleep somewhere and have my bills paid.

This year, I hope I am able to grow in the understanding of people.  My "empathy reserves" have never been so challenged than in my past year as an FVM; both my experiences in community and ministry forced me to look at things in new ways.  And in the end, I had to look at myself in a new way, and perhaps a more compassionate way.  We all know, when we are compassionate towards ourselves, we are able to pass along compassion towards others.  When I moved into Wilmington last year, I thought the city needed a knight in shining armor who would rid the city of drug lords and help the "good" people live a happier and more fulfilling life.  What I have learned in my very brief experience in ministry, is the lines are blurred and we are often forced to think and LOVE outside the box.  There are not easy answers in this work - there are good people everywhere - some of the most exceptional people I have met - people who have the highest moral code and the deepest connection with God live on the streets, sell their bodies, or beg for money - they are our "sidewalk prophets".  (apologies to the band).   I am learning to let empathy grow, facades fade, and I am just now beginning to understand the importance of letting God take control of a most irrational living situation.  Above all, I am trying to let the most Christian ideals of peace, reconciliation and understanding take the place of my own need to be that knight.  Here is to hope in God.
